  • Oil pump replacement

I am new to the site and am enjoying all the good information on here. I wanted to know how dificult it is to replace the oil pump on my 1986 70 hp Yamaha engine.

I am pretty mechanical, but did not know if this is just a straight forward swap out, or are there any special considerations I need to be aware of when replacing pump...ie: special adjustments, fine tuning, etc....or is this something I should leave to the pro's

    Thanks

You will get an oil pump conversion kit(6H1-WS132-00-00) and need to make sure it is installed correctly with check valves installed in right direction. Will need to bleed air out of new pump and injection hoses and add 50:1 premix of oil to gas, run at idle for about 10 minutes with oil link arm disconnected and in full throttle position until all air bubbles are out of oil lines. Then reconnect and adjust oil link arm.

Can I just replace the oil pump? or is that out of the question due to the age of the engine? By doing the conversion kit I'm assuming I no longer use the seperate oil tank, and stick to pre mixing the fuel tanks.

Just making sure from the pro....you know what they say when you assume.
      Thanks

"add 50:1 premix of oil to gas, run at idle for about 10 minutes with oil link arm disconnected "

Sorry for the dumb reply. I just re-read this again and understand why the premix. Thanks for your help.
