I own a 2003 2B that starts easily and runs fine at higher speeds but usually runs rough and misfires at throttle settings lower than the start position of the throttle lever. I was told by the dealer this is due to the transition between the slow and high speed circuits in the carburetor and that he would have to redesign the carb to eliminate the problem. In other words, the problem cannot be fixed. He admittedly has very little experience with the 2hp 2 cycle Yamaha. How smoothly should this engine run at idle and just above idle?

They are not as smooth as the 2 and 3 cylinder engines. They shake a little at idle.

Thank you for responding to my posting. I realize that a 2 or 3 cylinder runs smoother than a 1 cylinder. But at slow speeds (throttle settings lower than the start position) my little Yamaha 2hp engine fires on every other compression stroke. Is that normal?
