Trim/Tilt 225 problem

1997 225, Started with dead battery, had to open the manual relief valve and lift the motor and lock into place to transport. Set the motor back to the down position and replaced the battery. Pushed the raise switch and the motor traveled all the way to the up position. Trimed down and all went well until it came into contact with the two trim piston. The motor ran but the engine would not go to the complete down position. Open the releif valve and the engine went down. Rased the engine again and the same thing repeated it self. Raised the engine again to the almost full position and open the fill plug, the oil looked like it had air in it. raised it a couple more times opened the fill plug each time to release any air, but would have to open the relief valve for it to go to the full down position. Any suggestions??????????

open the manual valve and cycle the uni up and down a few seconds,close the valve and try again.
most likly the memory piston in the tilt is locked.
