  • 2 questions about a 2000 50hp 2 cycle Yam

Just picked up this 3 cylinder motor.

    1. Good stream of water....feels excessively hot to me. Concerns ? No warning buzzer or anything....just feels very hot.

    2. Motor tilts up like a champ.......tilted back down a few times, and now won't tilt down at all.

    Some guidance please.

Probably needs new water pump and thermostats.
If trim motor is running then check fluid level.

test alarm system and stats for proper operation.
        What feels hot?
If T&T motor does not run check motor on 12 v battery and then check relay and switches

The stream of water feels hot. Its a good hard stream, that's why I didnt think it was the water pump. Just concerns me how hot the water is coming out.

The T&T pump works fine going up...strong. All it does is 'click' when the down side button is pushed. Sounds like solenoid is firing, but nothing at the pump.

Remember it has to make up the + & - as it reverses motor
            Check all connections

relay not making connection internally is my thoughts.

Always had just warm water come out of my C40 tell tail, so your volume of water is in question.
When was last time pump was replaced?

The solenoid slams hard, just doesnt fire the pump.

The water pump has never been replaced, the engine has very little use compared to age. The stream is very strong, just hot.

Yamaha recommends replacement every couple of years, replace with a kit.
12 year old piece of rubber that bends and seals to pump water will go bad just sitting.

If the internal contacts do not make electrical connection the motor will not run, I believe the up relay makes up the - when it is deenergized so it could be that side or the the other one not making contact. A volt meter will show what is happening
