Here's the update. Mechanic says pistons are bad. Probably 1600-250 0with parts and labor. fml. I'm hoping after the rebuild of the motor its a smooth rice.

The latest news is the tech has to take the engine apart because hr thinks its the pistons. 2000 bucks to fix. I am seriously depressed. How could the boat run perfect and then ban the pistons are shot?

typically its overheat,lack of oil or lean air fuel mix.
can hapen in minutes.
at 2000 dollars I am suspect of the job your going to get.
typically that job will include fuel system maint,cooling system maint surfacing the heads boring the block and some other work.
scuffed/burned pistons are a symptom of a problem,not the problem.
as you stated its being pre-mixed it already tells me the last person mommicked it.

Thanks rod bolt. So once its fixed should I be ok? I ammixing oil 50;1 as stated. How can I prevent this fromnhappenimg in the future?

The tech says hes unsure of the problem until he takes the motor apart but believes its the pistons. I asked him about the mixing of oil and gas and he said it is ok but for 800 bucks plus labor he can make it back to oil injected is that worth it?

Do you think getting the oil injection hooked back up will correct the issue in the future? I amnwondering so I can call the mechanic and make everything right.

You need to find out what all is bad and figure out what caused it before deciding on a fix

I dunno.
I am behind a monitor, not looking at the pistons.
the pistons and spark plugs will tell the tale on why you had a mechanical failure.
not all techs can read the sighns so the put it back together and it fails again.
that motor will run fine on 50/1 premix.
just gotta find out why it died to start with.

Update!

I got the boat back from the dealer. 3 of the 6 pistons died which was probably an issue with the previous owner. The tech rebuilt the engine, hooked up the oil injected (wasn't like that before, i had to premix) and all is ready to go. He said with the motor that it should last a long time and there should be no problems with the engine running lean causing the engine and pistons to seize.

$2,500 later i can say i am happy knowing i can go out on the gulf and not have to worry about any BS. He took it for the test ride and said it ran perfect and there are many more hours left. I didn't tell him to hook up the oil injection but he said it was necessary for the motor and couldn't understand why the previous owner didn't properly hook up the motor.

Congrats and welcome to boating. I know that was a sting and there is likely no way for you to have prevented it in the buying process unless you had a very experienced individual with you and perhaps not even then. It sounds as if you are moving on and that is a good thing. Enjoy.

99 I'll find out today. I was busy at worked and he said he will explain. I will believe it's a mixture of a lot of things from the idiot who took the cheap way out.
