  • Prop shaft hard to turn

Two part question I need help with:

I have twin 91 Yamaha 200's and had the prop hubs replaced recently. The port prop is now slightly rubbing the lower unit housing. I tried the same prop on the starboard motor with no rubbing so it appears the problem may be a bent prop shaft. Using a micrometer tried to test for runout but seemed to be none to very minor?? I could file the inside of the lower unit slightly and prevent the rubbing, do you think I would have any issues?

In trying to determine the trueness of the shaft I've notice the port shaft is substantially harder to turn by hand than the port shaft. I recently had the starboard lower unit seals replaced? What could cause this?

    Thanks

If prop shaft is bent enough for prop hub to rub you should be able to see the shaft wobble when spinning prop by hand. Check the rear thrust washer is correct one and not worn.

The actual hub doesn't appear to be rubbing, it's the body of prop that's rubbing the inside of the lower unit housing. It's only hitting on one side. What's puzzling is that it wasn't doing this before I had the prop hub replaced?

Sounds like the hub wasn't positioned properly when it was re-hubbed.

Torque the prop nut to 40 ft lbs to see can seat the hub and if helps.
