Need help!!!
Took the boat out yesterday on a fishing trip. It is 40 miles in one direction. The first 20 miles the boat was running to perfection and then the motor started sputtering and we shut her down. It felt like a fuel problem. We started checking things out and the first thing we noticed was there was no fuel going to the motor. We thought the priming bulb was bad since we could not get gas to come out the end of the bulb after disconnecting the hose from it. We took the bulb off and connected it to a second boat that was running with us and the bulb worked fine. It seemed like the problem was the line from the tank to the bulb. We could not get fuel to come out this way.
We finally took the sending unit off the top of the tank thru the access plate and took the hose from a funnel and placed it in the tank and connected it to the bulb and were able to get fuel to the engine. It started right up and ran fine as long as we did not go over 3300 rpms(half throttle). If we did it acted up and sputtered and would want to stall. We proceeded to fish on the way back in to the launch and returned home safely.
What could my problem or problems be???
1.There was no water in the fuel filter(red ring was on the bottom. We did remove it and empty it anyway.
2. we did notice some trash in the temporary line that we ran from the tank to the bulb(line was clear-see thru). We also had a solid prime to the motor(could see the line was full with fuel)
3. We had bypassed the water seperator with this action. but still no water in the filter on the motor.
4.we ran over 30 miles to return to the launch and were never able to exceed 3300 rpms (half throttle)without the engine sputtering.
5.also started experiencing the oil reservoir not pumping poil to the gravity feed tank on the motor. We had to fill it manually. The switch on the back of the motor to prime the oil tank did not seem to work(this was a previous problem we had had a year ago and took to the dealer to repair.
Any thoughts??
Could it be a bad injector or injectors?
