    Need help!!!

Took the boat out yesterday on a fishing trip. It is 40 miles in one direction. The first 20 miles the boat was running to perfection and then the motor started sputtering and we shut her down. It felt like a fuel problem. We started checking things out and the first thing we noticed was there was no fuel going to the motor. We thought the priming bulb was bad since we could not get gas to come out the end of the bulb after disconnecting the hose from it. We took the bulb off and connected it to a second boat that was running with us and the bulb worked fine. It seemed like the problem was the line from the tank to the bulb. We could not get fuel to come out this way.
We finally took the sending unit off the top of the tank thru the access plate and took the hose from a funnel and placed it in the tank and connected it to the bulb and were able to get fuel to the engine. It started right up and ran fine as long as we did not go over 3300 rpms(half throttle). If we did it acted up and sputtered and would want to stall. We proceeded to fish on the way back in to the launch and returned home safely.
What could my problem or problems be???

1.There was no water in the fuel filter(red ring was on the bottom. We did remove it and empty it anyway.
    2. we did notice some trash in the temporary line that we ran from the tank to the bulb(line was clear-see thru). We also had a solid prime to the motor(could see the line was full with fuel)
    3. We had bypassed the water seperator with this action. but still no water in the filter on the motor.
4.we ran over 30 miles to return to the launch and were never able to exceed 3300 rpms (half throttle)without the engine sputtering.
5.also started experiencing the oil reservoir not pumping poil to the gravity feed tank on the motor. We had to fill it manually. The switch on the back of the motor to prime the oil tank did not seem to work(this was a previous problem we had had a year ago and took to the dealer to repair.

    Any thoughts??
Could it be a bad injector or injectors?

Could be running poorly because it is going into a safe mode. Sounds like you have a clogged fuel line keeping fuel from reaching the motor. Might be the anti-syphon valve on the tank. You should have your computer scanned, most likely your oil transfer pump has gone out (very commen).

Can I run it on an external tank and hose? Does the computer have to be reset by computer to get it out of safe mode or does it do it automatically and can it be done manually ?
The access plate thru the deck to the fuel tank is a round 6 inch plate. The sending unit sits under it(which is where we accessed the fuel tank) but the pick up tube is about 6 inches away. Where is anti-syphon valve? Is that under the fuel cap and connected to the tank ? There is no over flow valve on the outside of boat by the fill. We ran over 20 miles before it acted up.
Any recommendations? A good trusty mechanic has been hard to find here in New Orleans and those have a 3 month back log.

      Thanks

You really need to have someone hook up to computer to see what is going on with the motor.
Yes you can run on a external tank, but you need to monitor fuel pressures and the other systems also to see what is going on if it is still not reaching proper RPM, there are screens and filters that can plug.

anti-siphon Valve would be in the pick up line coming out of tank

Any suggestions on filters and screens to clean? I spoke with a mechanic and he said that the safe mode will reset itself when you turn the key off. I am thinking of running the motor off a 6 gallon tank with fresh gas.
          What do you guys think?

          Thanks in advance

yes if you run on an aux tank, hose and ball hooked to motor filter you isolate an issue with the supply side
