1990 225 etxd YAMAHA wiring harnees, cut and splice,or ?

Hello,I have a corrosion problem with my wires , corrosion on the inside. I can not find a complete new harness, I was wondering if I cut and splice in new wires,and do away with the main wiring harness connector at the computer, if this is the right way to go,or am I missing something?
