  • 40hp did not use oil

I have an 85 40hp and it has been running great. Today, I took it out and of course, filled the oil reservoir before I left. When I got back, after burning about 2-3 gallons of fuel, I found that it really didn't use any oil. Yes, I guess I could mix the oil in the gas, but is there anything in the oil pump I can check to see why it didn't pump oil. And hopefully, it didn't cause much damage.

I burn 4 or 5 5 gallon tanks of fuel before I need to fill the oil reservoir. Thats on a 1986 Pro-50. Equates to about 100:1

So it takes a long time for the tank to go down. If you are worried about it no harm in pre-mixing until you can verify the precision blend.

Main thing to verify is that that the oil pump lever is connected to and moving with the throttle, You should see the pump portside.

Ok, thanks. I have had this motor for a while and know it used a lot less than normal. I will just premix for now. At 100:1, a little extra oil should be too bad.
