Tilt piston leak

I have a bad leak around tilt piston on F115
Mechanic recommends entire lower tilt and trim assembly $2000
Can this be repaired
Is this difficult

It can be repaired but you have to find a competent shop that wants to do it. The tilt piston has to be removed and disassembled. A lot of dealers just replace them because of the time involved. If you have the SHOWA style PTT these units are also on Honda and Suzuki and are almost identical.
