2005 yamah 90 tach/rmp

Wondering if i need to look into getting a new prop or if there is a way to ensure my tach is reading right. I have an 18ft flat aluminum with a 3 ft tunnel in the back, 16p four blade.. The motor will tac around 6500 to 7000 wot. speed around 40. and help/ advice would be appreciated.

Probably a tach problem, rev limiter shouldn't allow engine to turn over about 6200 rpm's.
