  • Small outboard motors

I was going to buy a new yamaha 4 or 6 hp. 4 stroke outboard motor. I have never been around one when it runs. I went to youtube and found some running. They seem very loud. Even at idle. Are these 1 cyl motors much louder than a 2cyl 8hp or 9.9? Or is it just the 1 cyl. pop that makes them seem louder. youtube might be a bad place to go for sound level because of different camara's. I have a T50 yamaha and it is so quiet. I thought about the 4hp or 6hp 20", just to save some money. All I will use it for is *****ing. I want to save on the T50 for just cruising

I ran a Yamaha 4HP 2 stroke on my canoe for a couple of years and it was an excellent motor, quiet and dependable, but at 48 lbs. it was heavier than my old Tanaka 3HP at 27lbs., so I sold the Yammy and went back to my Tanaka. Good Luck!
