i was changing the water pump on my 25 hp outboard when i tried to disconnect the shift rod it came off from underthe motor. do you have to pull the motor to get to where the shift rod connects to the upper shifter? if so how do you pull the motor?

Yes the powerhead will have to be removed, it's not that hard to get off remove bolts holding engine to drive shaft housing, fuel hose, control linkage, wires and lift engine up off of drive shaft. -

To replace it? If I have the lower unit off can it be done?

Yes you will need to remove powerhead to get shift shaft out.Comment
