  • Best prop for F300 on Key West 246BR

I just got my new Key West 246BR bay boat, equipped with a Yamaha F300. This is an AMAZING combination!! I would like opinions on the correct prop however. I have tried three different Saltwater Series II props - 17, 19 and 21 pitch.

So far, I am most please with the 21-pitch. It still has good "hole shot," the best top end speed (58 mph loaded with three grown men), the best fuel economy, and by far the best cruise speed. It seems to be an easy choice.

However, it will only reach 5400-5500 rpms completely trimmed (I will also be installing a 6" Atlas Jack Plate). Is this an acceptable top-end RPM maximum. With it being a high-performance motor, I just want to make sure this won't do anything the harm the engine.

    Thank you for your input.

Need to wait until jack plate is installed, may require a different prop with jack plate. We perfer to keep rpm's on high side of range which would be 5500-6000 rpm's.

Yamaha says 5000 - 6000 and you are well within the slot. I would say if you like the prop and have tested the other 2 against it - run it!

If your fuel quality is ever questionable, I would limit the throttle to cruise though just to be safe.
