Poppet valve question

I picked up some sand yesteday after fishing and the engine alarm went off. Noting coming out of the weep hole either. Cleared the hole with a piece of 80# mono and the water is coming out great but it's cold on the cuff or in the water.

When I turned it off the water coming out all the otehr drain was warm but the weep hole was cold.

Is it safe to assume it's the valve. Since I'm pumping water and it's warm coming out the drains is it safe to assume that it's only the poppet valve?
Before I get a new valve I'll pull the old one out to see if it ingested some sand and is partially open.

Fixed, poppet valve grommet.

What was wrong with the grommet?
Was there corrosion pushing the grommet and keeping the valve from closing?

Cleaned up the hole reinstalled grommet. That's it.

Good thing it happened. I found a pin hole leak in the fuel pipe to the top carb. That could ruin anybody's day.
