1989 225 Excel. Started after sitting a couple of weeks. Left the key alot longer then normal before starting. Was cleaning up something. Idle was high, around 10-11. Lowered idle se screw, then is straightened it self out. So raised back up to 7.
While seeing why it would not idle, it was very hard to put in reverse. Actually it was clicking in both foward and reverse, The control was fighting me in reverse, did this test with engine off. Moved shifter back and forth then seemed to free up. So left dock, ran in the Bay got to a friends house and shut it off, I started, went for foward and just clicking. Had reverse. Adjusted shift cable at engine for more foward. As much as it would go and no foward, just clicking/grinding.
Shift rod has been changed years ago to new style(stainless).
Ran great the last time out before this. Took the boat home in reverse.
Tomorrow Morning I will try to shift with the cable off at the engine side. Worth a shot.
Any thoughts?
