2003 60hp 2cycle watrpump replacement

When I pulled the lower unit I accidently had the control box in reverse. I thought I would just put it back together the same way with controls in reverse, but it seems like the lower unit is in nuetral. Would the lower unit automatically go back to reverse when I pulled it? I would appreciate any help

Not really. Just take it apart and put it back together. Put motor and shifter in nuetral. high sierra
