Used genuine Yamaha parts, strainer is clear. The problem acts like insufficient pump pressure at idle. So much for routine replacement of the water pump!
Unfortunately, I chucked all of the old parts. Dumb move, since it was working.
Next time at the lake I will pull the stat and cover and see of the water rises that high at idle.
