oil to gas mixture

I bought a 115 yamaha v4 two stroke motor 9well along with the boat) and was told to mix a ratio of 12:1 evry one that i tell this to says that it is way to rich. The fact that i have white smoke coming out all the time confirms its too rich. I wa just wondering if someone knows what the mix really should be?
by the way the guy told me that it is a 115 commercial if that makes any differance

Yamaha made a non oil injection 115HP the model is C115 and the oil ratio was 50:1

I have a 2000 C115 (pre-mix) - I mix one quart TCW-3 oil to 12.5 gallons of gas - 50:1 ratio. You might want to change your plugs since you've been running 12:1 - they are probably fouled up pretty bad .

Should i slowly reduce the amount of oil? just in case 50:1 is too little? Thats a huge jump (12 to 50):1

I think i might be confused;
12:1 the way i have been doing it is 12gallons to one qt oil.
On the "pre-mix"bottle the smallest it goes is 24:1 so i do have of what that would be, so say i fill up 10 gallons, i fill the oil up to the three gallon mark on the bottle. am i way wrong in what i am doing??

50:1 would be 50gal to one qt which seems why lean

The ratio 50:1 means 50 parts gas to 1 part oil, which means for 50 gallons of gas you would add 1 gallon oil. You have to use the same volumn on both sides of ratio, gallons to gallons , quarts to quarts, pints to pints etc...

To get a 50 to 1 ratio; You would add 16 ounces of oil to every 6 gallons of fuel. This information is on the back of a gallon container of Yamalube 2-M.
Might I suggest you go buy a ratio cup from your yamaha dealer. It really takes the guess work out of the picture.
