    Just a thought (But I agree you don't want to screw up the gel-coat, etc)...

    I'd bet if you simply put one cut dead smack in the middle of that lock bar, both ends would slid off each end.

    Re the gel coat, etc, when I'm doing critical work near something I don't want damaged, I'll either put a piece of wood / steel, sheet metal (depending on the situation) in between the item to be cut and what you don't want damaged.

    You wouldn't have to support the engine either as your NOT touching the mounting bolts..

    Just a thought. Good luck and please post back how it goes...

      Another "just a thought". I'm not you and you do it the way you feel best but, have you tried hitting the lock end cap parallel to the assembly with a good sized hammer and bar? I bet that pin that the lock holds the cap on with is not that hard to break?
