Changing three wire lead in ppt motor in Yamaha Pro 50

How do the leads attaching inside the ppt motor housing attach- plug in, screw on or solder?
Can you open the top end of ppt motor and do this replacement with the motor still mounted on the ppt bracket.

You would have to disassemble the trim motor, some model the wires connect to brushed and others connect to brushes and field coils.
