  • 1999 175 2 stroke starter motor issues

1999 175 2 stroke with @700 hours. Went to start and it turned slow like a bad battery. Switched to reserve battery and it started right up.
Later on, starter would not function at all. Had to rope start.

Batteries are good. Connections, switches, fuses and wiring all good (checked all with voltmeter).

Relay no good (confirmed via testing). Starter no good (confirmed via hot wire test). This solves the starter problem.

Here is the kicker, the tilt and trim quit working for some reason as well. There are 3 relays on this motor, 1 for starter, one for trim up and one for tilt down.
If the starter relay is bad, would this for some reason cause the tilt and trim to become inoperable?
Has anybody had a similar experience?

This is a real strange one to me....

It would be much more possible for you to have a problem that is common to all of them, like a bad battery cable or connection, that is not to say a few things can fail at the same time, but, it is more often you have something wrong that you are over looking.

Did you ever figure out what was needed to fix this issue? I'm having the same problem now....
