I have a 40hp Yamaha 2003 . The problem is if the motor has been sitting for a few days you have to crank the motor over for about 5 min before it will fire but will not run but after a few attempts the motor will run and runs great. The lever a the controls for warm up,we do not know if it should be all the way up or not to start and it seems to be flooded when it does start. The bulbs hard when primed. If any one knows of any ideas , pls help.....this...Kevino

Since you did not give a model # we can only guess if it is a prime start model or it has a choke on the carbs.
My guess is it is a prime start and you do not lift the fast idle lever to start these motors, just turn the key for a few seconds and then off for a few and repeat till it fires up. If it will not fire up with 3 or 4 tries then you have a problem with the passages in the carbs and prime start system
