I have a yamaha/mariner 40 HP manual start engine, I think it is a 1981-1984 mariner, serial number: 676BS 001789. It has worked fine all winter although can be hard to start at times. I've just launched into the sea this summer and it won't start at all. I've had a mechanic who works at the local marina to have a look at it and he reccons that it is the stator that has gone on it. I can't get a spark from any of the two spark plugs.
Now I'm looking for a stator for the engine and it's not easy finding a stator for an old engine like this one. I have found an image of what the stator should look like. Can anyone suggest where I can find a stator for this engine?
