forgot to mention while the buzzer is going off all three symbols on my gauge have a flashing triangle above them and the engine goes into power reduction mode

In 1990 Yamaha put the oil level lights in the tach and the overheat light in the speedo. So if it's the original gauge then overheat will not cause the lights to blink. In 1990 Yamaha added a loose battery cable warning that would cause the lights to blink and it did cause problems, By the starter solenoid switch there are 2 inline fuse holders(gray and black, make sure the fuses fit tight in holders( can tighten prongs in fuse holder with pliers just be gentle), clean and tighten battery cables. If this doesn't fix then it's probably a oil problem.
