Australia. Motor has 141.1 hours use. Problems. fuel injector pump failure 2, trim tilt failure 3, water hose too cooling system blow out 2, fuel line to fuel pump leakages 2 (fuel noticed flowing into boat from the motor and motor starve for fuel whilst underway)
Fuel injector pump replaced twice after failing between 20 - 30 hours on each unit.
(use hour meter)
trim tilt ram and pump unit replaced twice (3 failures). both units failed one after around 128 hrs (valve replace inside unit and it failed after 10hrs) and new unit failed after 3 hrs use. thought first unit may have hairline crack or fault in housing allowing fluid to bypass so unit replaced.
1st unit had valve that allows hydraulic fluid to trim motor out replaced at 128hrs mark and failed at around 138hr mark (10 hours use). It appears this valve just cannot stand up to pressure applied when boat underway.
When underway and motor trimmed out motor forces itself down after a minute as if trimmed in. Motor can be pushed down by hand when trimmed out with all electrics off and battery disconnected. Do not have problem of motor trimming out (unintentionally) whilst in reverse.
Spoke to other owners and outboard mechanic who have acknowledged that there is fuel injector pump problems with f40 (that units fail) where towing is only option. Towed twice after having to travel 150km by road and 20km to 30km on ocean in middle of night. not happy. will not go on water unless other boat accompanies. lost complete confidence in motor. what will break next.
Dealer is losing patience as making him look bad.
Has anyone else had issues with trim tilt hydraulic unit on the f40 four stroke. motor is 2009 four stroke fuel injected. What is solution. Been patient through all issues but patience running out.
All issues except trim tilt have been solved.
external release valve working properly, fluid level normal, no problems with air in pump and electrics ok. Just internal valve keeps blowing. Fish and crab normally 3 days a week for the past 10 years. This has not been happening since lost confidence in motor. Owned several yamaha motors and this is the first lemon.
