Long story short, I ran on a full choke for almost 40 minutes...finally realized what was going on and had to manually push the choke linkage down to open the butterflies. I thought all was well, but then it stalled...I fired it back up and tried to get on plane, but lost power then it stalled again. Since then (last week), I haven't been able to start it...it just spins.
I've replaced the plugs, checked compression (all cylinders between 100-105 cold), but the choke soleniod seems to be out of spec (book calls for 3.2-4.0 ohms, I measured 5.2-5.3 ohms). When I spray starter fluid into the carbs it fires right up, then stalls after the fluid burns off. I've hooked up to an external tank to eliminate any problem with fuel flow from the tank to the engine, but no change. (Also, last year I installed two new OEM full pumps, so I don't think it's the pumps.)
My question is, could running on a full choke for 40 minutes foul the carbs so bad that I need to clean/rebuild them (it was running so well just a couple of weeks ago)? Could a bad choke solenoid prevent the engine from starting?
Any thoughts and/or feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck
