  • Stud bolt

After finishing a carb rebuild I was reinstalling carbs when one of the stud bolts from the intake manifold broke. How is this repaired? Thanks.

If you can get to it fairly easily you can either use a bolt extractor or drill out the bolt. Then use a stainless metric helicoil. The hardest part will be getting the old bolt out. A helicoil kit is fairly inexpensive and not hard to use. Most good auto parts places have the kit. Use anti-seize compound for the new bolt in case you have to remove it again in the future. I used to have a 1985 Yam 115 and got quite proficient using helicoils!

      Got it

Found out this is a double threaded bolt ($2-$4). Removed carb and removed the bolt. Easy to do but removing the bolt took some work as the bolt is smooth in the middle between threads. Used needlenose vise grips.

Every once in a while... you get lucky! Glad you got the bolt out.

It also would be good to not torque any bolt higher than the manual calls far
