  • Alarm? Impeller/water pump?

    Hello,

Can somebody please give me a little direction. I got a 1989 90 horse and yesterday an alarm sounded when going slower/idle. I checked to see if the intake was clogged(No), then I noticed the water outtake was constant, but not heavy?
Is that a sign of a water pump going out?

    Or is it the impeller?

    What is my next step?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

The impeller is part of the water pump that is rubber and needs to be replace every so often, preferably before you have a overheating problem.
And it is best to replace the cup and plate also. The kit is just a few dollars more.
If the motor overheats too bad it can cause warping problems with the water pump plastic housing and needs to be inspected to see if it needs replacing every time you replace the other parts.
Thermostats are something else that need replacing every so often before they cause major problems from overheating of the motor
