  • Long Term Winterization/Storage Question

I’d like some suggestions on “ long term winterization/storage” for a 2 stroke outboard.

Engine was winterized but will not be used this season. Boat is in a storage barn with no water available.

I thought about just spraying “fogging oil” in the cylinders while rotating the engine but then thought about the water pump rotating without water.

So now my current plan is to spray fog oil in the carb throats and cylinders without rotating.

Will this protect the cylinders/engine from rust?

When I was in the military we sort of did the same thing on large reciprocating engines by spraying “pickle fluid” into the cylinders while rotating the propeller by hand.
Seems like my plan should work OK. Suggestions/comments please. Thanks !!!!

you should be fine rotating the engine in short bursts to get the fogging oil in the cylinders. Don't Crank it to long, 3 - 5 seconds should be plenty. also give it a shot in carbs

and drain the carbs, fuel pump and lines.
then pump the fuel tank dry.
check the gear oil for water, grease all lube points and remove the battery.
