I'm ready to vat my 90 HP carbs before installing new kits. My local Yamaha guy says automotive cleaner will remove the coating on the aluminum carbs. He suggested using their cleaner ($40/gallon). Is there anything safe that's not so pricey? Thanks for the help.

I use "Gunk Carburetor & Parts Cleaner". It comes in a 1 gal. can with a small basket. Depending on how much your carb is gummed up, soak the carbs for 1 to 2 hours. You should be able to get it at any auto parts store for about $10.
