i am working on a 2001 150 2-stroke for a customer. Engine tank was empty and pump not filling up tank. pump is not running and alarm was sounding. no power to pump, also emergency switch does not activate pump. i can hook up 12 volts to pump wires and it works. gut feeling tells me its the CDI unit. i just want some suggestions before he spends 800.00 on new CDI.

my gut feeling is if you buy a CDI unit you will have a spare CDI.
have you checked the brown wire at the remote tank for 12V with the key on?
have you tested the switchs in the engine tank and the switch in the remote tank?

        then find out why.
but the 12V power on the brown wire does NOT come from the ECU.
there is a splice in the 10 pin main about 4 inchs behind the engine connector that can fail.
its where the brown lead is spliced to the yellow key on 12V power wire.
the ECU simply controls the ground path for the pump.

check the key switch and see if it is bad or the wiring going to motor or you do not have voltage to the key switch to begin with.
How are you checking for voltage?

Jb thanks for your concern but i am not familiar with yamaha's oil injection electrical. My field is Mercury, im working on this for a friend.

Just like on any electrical problem you will have to chase it down to see where you are loosing it, most of the time it is in a connector. But wiring can go bad also, sounds like your meter leads can cause unnecessary trouble shooting. Make sure your test equipment is functioning properly

now that you have the meter leads fixed, check the voltage on the brown wire at the remote tank to a good engine ground with key on engine off.
brown will splice into the engine main harness yellow a few inches behind the 10 pin main connector.

dont have any voltage on the yellow wire on the engine, cut the insulation back from the 10 pin connector on the key side of harness and still no power. I have power at the key and both sides of the connector at the key. I am pulling the harness out today to inspect.

ran another wire from key and now have voltage on the yellow and the brown at tank, i can now fill with emergency switch but it will not automatically if i drain the tank on engine. Buzzer goes off but nothing happens.
