  • 2001 F100 tilt falling down

    Hi,

    I have a 2001 F100 outboard.
It works well with trimming/tilting up and down but it doesn't stay up.
It just slowly falls down again.
Could this also be fixed by changing these two valves VALVE SUB ASSY Part 50 or is this something completely different?

    Thanks,
    Kim

    manual release valve leaking.
    trim piston orings leaking
    free piston oring leaking.
    two way check valve leaking.

      Thanks for the reply.
Sounds difficult for DIY unless it's the manual release valve leaking.
Any pointers for how to check/repair what's wrong? (Which parts are we talking about according to the list.

      Thanks,
      Kim

its actually one of the most difficult units in the outboard world.
if your not familiar with hydraulics in general and dont have some of the essential tools for tear down and the manual for inspection and reassembly I would find a dealership, using the Yamaha dealer locator function, of a dealership near you with at least ONE master tech.
and request ONLY that tech touch it.

          Thanks again,

Yes, sounds like I have to let a pro look at it.

this unit does not fail often.
means most techs never see one.
means most shops dont have the tooling even though they are yamaha dealers.
if ya cant find a shop with a master tech at least find one that has a tech with Drive trian certificate hanging on the wall.
that unit is about 2700 dollars new.

              Well, guess what.
Today everything was back to normal again.
              Just a bad day yesterday...?

              Just another question though.
I'm a new owner to this boat and outboard since last summer and the previous owner had installed strainer 1 backwards in the fuel-line.
He also left me a new spare but instead of the supposed 67F-24251-00-00 it was the 65W-24251-10-00 instead.
Anyway, I installed the spare today and just wonder what the difference might be?
Could this one potentially be bad for my carbs?
              (Yes, it's actually a 2000-model, not 2001 as I first believed)

              Thanks,
              Kim

like I tell all the rest of the no manual no tools backyadigans.
there is NOTHING you can tear up, that with copious amounts of cash, I cannot fix .
your skill level and ability to purchase tools and read is outside of my technical capability.

Just wanted to point out that it wasn't me who wrote that last message about fixing it myself.
Any information about the inline fuel filter is appreciated, though.
But, maybe this should go into another thread...?

it should work, check the overall length and the hose barb diameters.
                          its a simple inline filter.
