1999 4 hp 2 stroke

I need a short shaft, but have a low hour pristine long shaft, will a 1993 upper casing fit my 1999 long shaft to make it a short shaft? Will this swap work out or are the bolt patterns different on these two models? I know that I also need a different shifter, drive shaft, and water tube. Anything else I'm missing? Am I crazy for trying to do this?
