  • F150 motor trim angle at mooring

    Hi,
I store my boat on a floating mooring.

Is it important (or does it cause stress to the trim ram) to leave the motor at any trim angle, ie not using the the angle support lever?

Should the motor be stored using the trim support lever or can it be stored at any angle just resting on the trim ram?

    Thanks.

You can leave it any way you want. Support lever is overkill at a mooring.

if you are "storing" your boat on a mooring, does this mean you are leaving it there for days/weeks? straight? if so, i would use the flipdown brackets to take the pressure of the ram. however, if it's just a day or so here and there, the ram will be fine. may be fine, anyway. just my opinion and what i would do with mine. any long-term pressure you can take off the ram has got to be better, but i'm a little obsessive sometimes

          Hi,

          I live in Australia.
The here climate enables me to fish all year round.
On average I fish once a week, depending on weather some times 2-3 times a week, therefore my boat is regularly used and is not stored for any length of time.

Just wanted to make sure by not using the trim up support lever that the weight of the motor who not put added strain on the trim ram.

In my situation I would refer to leave the motor as upright as possible.

          Cheers.

pressure should not be a problem, but the shiny metal of the ram rods exposed to salt water( if that is what it is stored in) will rust and corrode faster when exposed all the time

              Hi,
Ok, corrosion is not a problem as the pontoon the boat is stored on lifts the boat out of the water, you drive the boat onto the submerged pontoon and then the pontoon is filled with air and raises up resulting with the boat sitting about 30 cm (1 foot) above the water line when the pontoon is fully raised. With the engine trimmed down the skeg of the motor is just above the water line - ie clearly dry at all times.
              Thank you for your responses.
              Cheers,

                OK. Just got it.
Its best to store the motor in a vertical upright position.
In this position you keep the trims ram rods inserted into the trim, and not exposed to environmental conditions and dirt.
If you leave them exposed for long, then dirt just clings onto them, and when you decide to use the boat and as soon as you lower the motor, they slowly eat away the trims flanges...
