  • What constitutes a "new" outboard motor?

I want to buy a new boat with new F90 Yamaha four stroke. The dealers I have talked to are offering motors built in 2011 and 2010. Is a motor with a date tag of 2/10 the same motor as a date tag reading 2/11? Any changes, differences, etc.?

There could well be design features, additions and/or changes from year to year, but hopefully a 2010 or older, "new" motor would have some price advantages that would make it attractive. My son just bought a very slightly used, "almost new" 2006 boat with a Yamaha 115 4 stroke at a great price, and unless you looked very carefully you might not see much differences in that and a 2010 model. Good Luck!

and that is WHY yamaha does NOT use year of manufacture for identification.
its why they, like brunswick marine forever, went to engine seiel number.
if there were no changes the PID range could go for years, if they make a mid-year design change they simply break the seriel and immediatly implement the change.
that whay they dont have to wait until the next years production run.
its considered new until its sold and registered.
