maybe it was the way i said it but the results were the same as you discribe for autos, you remove the neg cable and put it on the pos terminal so that both cables are on the pos post but turning the key on sounds like away to do it also. thanks

Oh, don't mind the rodbolt; hard core factory man that usually doesn't subscribe to home-grown remedies. But, his ham & eggs explainations of some of that mumbo-jumbo in the shop manual have helped us all. He's got a bark but he's just a big ole' puppy-dog1999 Grady Sailfish SX225 OX66

OK, so lets recap, you chased an oil fault for days, despite Rodbolt telling you that you did not have an oil fault, you connected both battery leads to the same terminal (+) now this makes no difference if you connect them both to pos or neg, or bolt them together, the result is the same, one polarity/post on a battery, and the battery is not in circuit in any shape or form, now whether this has fixed the problem permanently is anyone's guess, my "guess" would be no, but time will tell, I don't really care if you have been fixing outboards for 50 years, it makes no difference in this case, you were stumped, you came here for help, you got help, but took days to take the advice. I do hope it is fixed.

plug fouling hpdi update to the updates
yes putting wires on either terminal or bolt them together just need to put them together. i did listen to everyone ideas and maybe i did chase some wild ideas but im a fast chaser as was said one of the members yamaha could not help much, but he did come thru with another cable and i was able to into the motors ecm, engine is still running and has been on 2 charters and customer said engine runs fine, i will check it next week again. yes i did come here for help and im am thankful to everyone, but after reading many of the posts , many who come here are not mech, it is hard enough to get people into boating because the recreation dollar is a hard thing to spend rite now, and they dont have spend it if there made fun of or critized when they are having problems, be a little open minded to people who dont have the experience that many of the senior menbers have. i know because you answer so many questions you get iritated by people who may not listen. but i have a thick skin, and am hard headed and take the cracks. i tell all my customers that no question is dumb, that dumb question might be very important.

fouling hpdi has new problem
got a call around noon customer said engine was running fine, came off plane and it started running rough, brought it to dock and i hooked up laptop and started engine monitor run and saw #1 and 3 not firing in gear or when trying to get on plane, pull boat out of water and sarted it on flusher started moving wires and it pickup 1 and 3, shut engine off and pull coil bracket to get to ecm plugs, and that when isaw the the harness was brittle and wire coating was coming off, showed the customer the problem and we looked up new harness. we will try to fine a used one if we can, any one have aused one. but i have learned another new lession when some one shows up on your doorstep with an engine that has 7000 hr on it and aremaned powerhead under his arm begging you to help him because everyone else around here turned him down. tell him to return the ph get his money back and junk the engine. he has spent 3500 on the powerhead, 1800 on new injectors, 1200 on labor and 400 on reeds plus misc. odd and ends, and now it needs harnesses.

a yes i am wondering if the ecm is next or part of the problem, but the harness is coming apart, were going to call this drama (AS THE PROP TURNS) the plot does thicken, when i went pick up his boat on the trailer behind the boat was a 2008 yam 250 4 stroke in an outboard shipping crate, so i asked him what with the 250 he said 4 yamaha dearlers have worked on it and can't get to run it looks brand, it belongs to his friend how got fed up and bought anothe new 250, so i said why dont we start looking into that engine while we are tring to find a harness and pos ecm, so that will be the new chapter in (AS THE PROP TURNS)
