increasing 1989 9.9 four stroke hp?

HI--- I have a ft9.9 from 1989 that is in almost new condition, and use for a kicker on my aluminum bass boat. they have recently increased the hp limits in my area from 10 to 20 hp. my question is ... is it possible to increase the hp of this engine in any relatively simple way. I know that people in this area have been doing it to mercs by changing the carbs for 30 years. any ideas????? thanks.....tom

Better to leave it as a 9.9 and buy a bigger motor. You might spend some time and money and increase your HP say 20%, then you'd still only have a 12HP motor, so what's it worth? Maybe find a nice used 20HP motor. Good Luck!
