2001 200hp hpdi

While running, the motor runs fine. Occassionally, after fishing for a while, when I try to start the engine it only makes a "clicking" sound at the starter. When I remove the cowling I noticed that the starter was hot to touch. After waiting around ten minutes, the motor will start right up and sound fine. I checked all the wire connections and none were loose. I'm talking about the part that engages the flywheel. Any suggestions?

I'd take the starter off and direct wire to battery to see if it turns. Sounds like it's seized.
