  • 1995 C40PLRT bad idle shake

    Hello everyone

I have a 1995 40hp long shaft outboard that at idle shakes real bad. when the engine was new it had the shake but not as bad. I had then engine tuned up, the carbs cleaned and checked on the Dyno. but the shake is still there and its transfering the noise up into the steering cable to the wheel. I took it crappie fishing up into kickapoo creek and it was making a racket. heads were turning everywhere. the history of this boat is that it has been run in saltwater. I guy cruised by me the other day and his engine puuurrd. it was nice.

    thanks

Did you or someone else do the carb cleaning?
Did the link and sync procedure get done after the carbs were reinstalled?

My C40 had the idle timing way off which caused the idle screw to be turned in too far. Anyway I had to replace the CDI to get it to idle properly.
If your idle and WOT timing is right then you may still have problems with your carbs pilot jets/passages or they are not adjusted properly.

            Thanks for the reply

I had a outboard mechanic do the work. I have a yamaha dealer right here in town, I will take it over to them. The first mechanic was one that works on any engine...might need someone who specializes in yamahas to look at it. The speed outside of idle is smooth.

the idle does seem really low right now..its slow *****ing when in idle. I have it on a Carolina skiff
