HPDI Plugs?

Good Morning,

I am getting ready to change plugs in my 2000 200hp HPDI and wondering the ones to replace with. Now they are NGK BKR7EKU which it calls for but I have been reading about ECM updates and changing to hotter plugs?
I bought the engine used so I do not know about any updates that have been done. The motor does load up and get smokey after a while. Anyone know if the BKR6EKU is a better plug for me?

actually it depends on the coil primary connector color for ALL HPDI before the 04 production run.
what color are the connectors? black or gray.
