I found out why I had to add some more fluid to my unit, it's leaking out of the top of the trim cylinders. Can I replace the seals or does the whole unit need to be replaced? This is the answer I received from a marine mech
Quote"My labour rate is $60. per hour, it sounds like you need a new piston for the tilt & trim pump, A new complete trim & tilt pump runs about $3000. I might have a used complete unit here that will work, I will need the measurements or to see the motor. The cost is about $1200.
I have had NO luck opening the older ones because they have already seized and then they break when opened and it requires a new one anyway."
Does this sound true, mine move up and down freely and no signs of corrsion anywhere and I have read others have replaced just the seals, looking for some clarification thanks.
