• 70 hp low water press after shallow water operation

i have a 1989 70 hp recently rebuilt powerhead.
also has a new water pump kit installed.

had great water output until shallow water lobster excursion in the keys

is it possible something could have gotten sucked up and is restricting flow?

i dropped the lwr unit a checked the water pump and it looks new

if its just low pee pressure, take some monofilament and clean out the output hole, most probably clogged there. if you have a gauge and shows low, then it has blockage elsewhere.

shallow water in the keys??? whered ya find that ????

jee,
If you think you sucked up a lot of sand/shell/mud into the water pump, then there are three things you can check to make sure the cooling water is doing its job:
1.Remove the hose that leads to the nipple of the side discharge and tape it to the edge of the lower cowling so that it will squirt downward. Look thru the nipple if you can to see any restriction - or remove it (it just snaps in) and blow thru it - clean it out if necessary. Reconnect the hose to the nipple and run motor with earmuffs and garden hose - if you have a good pee stream, then water pump is doing its job.
2.There could be debris stuck behind the thermostat - fairly easy to remove and check.
3.There could be debris stuck behind the pressure relief valve, or PRV, aka, poppit valve.
If you are not getting an overheat alarm, then you probably just have some shell stuck in the nipple of the side discharge.
Good luck,
Ken K
