My 1980 Yamaha 4hp 2 stroke overheated last time out. It stopped pumping water out the 'pee hole' and steam came out instead.
My local dealer reckons it is the thermostat sticking. He also told me the bolts that I need to remove to get to the thermostat can prove difficult to remove. He suggested I run the engine until it is hot and then attempt to remove the bolts.
I have also been told that if cleaning the thermostat fails to cure the problem I could drill a hole through the centre of the thermostat effectively making it redundant.
I would appreciate any comments or advice before I order parts(thermostat and gaskets?) and attempt a fix.
Regards Paul
