1985 70hp etlk prop shaft removal question

i need to remove prop shaft to have it trued. it is off by .03" according to the dial indicator. i'm also leaking water into the gear case. question is, do i have to remove the drive shaft before using the slide hammer and jaw expander attachment to remove the bearing carrier?

The bearing carrier has to come out first.
