I have a Yam 150 that I have an on-going issue with power loss. I have drained the gas tank, checked the anti-siphon device,water/fuel seperator and replaced the fuel pumps. The problem was resolved for one trip. I replaced the spark plugs and the problem seems to be back. I can run the motor without any trouble at 1800 rpms, but if I throttle up it will not rev above say 2800 and will quickly try to stall. Any suggestions.

jason,
Have you checked the local fuel filter - the one mounted on the motor?
If that outboard has not been decarbed in the last three years, I would do a shock treatment with Seafoam - maybe fuel system including carbs are gummed up, and a shock treatment may clean thngs up for you. Scroll down thru the posts and look for procedure.
If the shock treatment does not help, then you might consider doing a carb rebuild.
Good luck,

jason,
There's no need to have the tank drained unless fuel was allowed to set up for, say six months, without any fuel stabilizer in it.
If doing a shock treatment with Seafoam helps, that just tells me the carbs are gummed/varnished up. If the motor runs fine after the treatment, then carb rebuild is not necessary. If it improves, but still does not run right, try taking the needles out of the jets and squirting Berryman's Chemtool into the seats. If that does not help, then carb rebuild is in order.
Good luck,
Ken K
