  • 70 hp yamaha ignition switch replacement

i have a 70 hp 1989 yamaha and the ignition switch has broken off. it seems that the oem part is the complete wire harness.i noticed that the switch has several wires going into it. is there a after market switch that can be spliced in

        jee,
I'm sure it can be done, but you will have to do a little leg work to find a replacement.
I've never done it, but I like doing things unconventional, as long as I wind up with something as good as or better quality than original.
By my way of thinking, you need five wire connection to the switch:
        1.power (12 volts)
        2.ground
        3.choke
        4.ignition on
        5.start
I haven't looked at my ignition switch, lately, but these wire connections come to mind. There may be more on yours. The ignition kill switch comes into play somewhere in here - be sure to get it hooked up also - and don't forget to test it.
        Good luck,
        Ken K

original 703 or 704? i would hit sailorman, hardcore and grab a switch from them or ebay for about 30 bucks for a single.I have resolved issues the techs havent been able to with my dual 704`s but I would never try to rig my system, another way to create more problems, more $$.

I had the same idea when mine broke. I ended up buying the switch from Yamaha and never regreted it. 703 Binnicle with seperate switch panel. Replaced the switch only.

i believe it is a 704. the throttle is a top mount & the ignition key switch is seperate
