  • changing engine oil

on a 2009 115 yammie, how is the best way? I know you can suck it out but is there a drain somewhere? If you suck it out what kind of pump do you use?

on my 4-stroke there is a drain bolt located on the back of the middle housing, it is a hole. here is a great link for you. YouTube - Performing an annual service (oil change) on Yamaha outboard - Sunrise Marine

we suck it from the dipstick hole.
I have had to helicoil to many oil sump drain threads.
      its a pain.

the motor in the video is an F150.
its DESIGNED to be pumped Via the dipstick tube.
much faster, much simpler and ZERO mess.
and no one can strip the drain plug threads or lose the drain plug gasket.

so is stripping out the thread on the oil drain bolt really that big of a issue??? If so I will start pumping mine also.

            typically I do 3-5 a year.
usually do to some one horseing the plug or its slippery and messy and they cross thread it.
it can be done without engine dissasemply but its a pain.
