I recently removed the thermostat cover on my 88 Yamaha 90 to check the thermostat. I removed the pressure relief valve and spring to clean it any debris and lost the compression spring somewhere along the way. I ordered one but it still has not arrived. Would it be ok to run without it for a day or should I try to find some kind of spring to install in there for the time being. BTW there was not a thermostat in there either.

Question about the thermostat pressure relief valve

Don't run it. That's a 25 psi pressure spring that keeps that plastic poppet valve closed, so the waterpump can fill the powerhead with cooling water. With that spring gone the cooling water will just take the path of least resistance and escape out the relief hole, without cooling the motor. You will damage the motor do to overheating of the upper cylinders. Wait to get the correct spring before you run it.
